Lalita is 72 years old and lives alone in a shelter scrambled together with tarpaulin and branches that she had found locally.
In 2017 she was swept away by a huge flood, but was luckily saved by her neighbors. “My only request is to build a house with a higher plinth level so when I sleep, the flood will not sweep me away again. I don’t need a big house, I will be happy with just a single room but with a raised floor,” she says.
Lalita smiles proudly as she playfully boasts that she is still healthy, she doesn’t want to be a burden on her daughters. She just wants help to build herself a strong and stable home. “I don’t want to move to any other place as my husband died here, and I have a deeper connection to this place,” she says.
