Engaging the community to practice better hygiene in Bangladesh

On World Toilet Day last week, several events were held in locations around Bangladesh where we are currently running our Water and Sanitation Project.

The events included a mobile awareness campaign which featured a decorate pick up van that travelled across 10 villages and 55 kilometres to help spread the message of the importance of hygiene and sanitation. Habitat Bangladesh spoke to community members, held street performances to promote sanitation awareness and handed out 150 posters on improved hygiene habits to community members.

Our Water and Sanitation project is working with communities to improve access to clean water sources and sanitation facilities. A big component of the project is training and awareness raising. By training community members and talking to them about the importance of sanitation and it’s link to wellbeing, helps create stronger, healthier communities. People can then impact their knowledge and training on improved hygiene practices to others, and make a real impact in their community.
