We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

our
story

Habitat for Humanity Australia is part of Habitat for Humanity, an international not-for-profit that originated in Georgia, United States in 1976. Habitat for Humanity began as a grassroots effort driven by the vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. The housing organisation has since grown to become a leading global non-profit working in more than 70 countries. Since then it has been our mission to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

We believe everyone deserve a safe and decent place to live.

our
values

Our core values are Housing for all, Human Dignity, Partnership, Faith in Action, Diversity & Inclusiveness.

our
vision

A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.

our
mission

To bring communities together to help families build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

Home is the Key

Our mission is to demonstrate God’s love in action by mobilising partner families, volunteers and corporate partners to provide appropriate housing solutions in sustainable communities. We believe a decent home provides much more than bricks and mortar. It’s the foundation for the future, giving families the opportunity to be healthier, happier and more secure, and leads to stronger communities that can grow and sustain themselves.

our core principles

Through Shelter, We Empower

Demonstrate Christian faith in action

We believe that faith is lived through action. Building on our Christian foundation, we serve and work with people of all faiths and beliefs in a spirit of justice and compassion.

Advocate on behalf ofthose in need

We believe living in substandard shelter is socially, morally and spiritually unacceptable. It is incumbent upon us to put decent shelter in the hearts and minds of everyone.

Focus on shelter

We believe that access to safe, decent and affordable housing is a basic human right and should be available to all.

Engage broader community

We believe there is a role for everyone committed to our vision, mission and values and we seek to enrich our organisation through diversity. We can best achieve our mission through meaningful and mutually-beneficial partnerships with others.

Promote dignity

We believe in the worth and dignity of every human being. We respect the people we serve and those that help us in this effort and recognise them as our greatest resource.

Sustainable Communities

We believe that promoting sustainable community development outcomes transforms the lives of those in need of decent homes, and the hearts and minds of everyone along the way.

we provide a hand up, not a hand out

We don’t give hand-outs; we give people hand-ups by building homes in partnership with families in Australia and overseas. We work withthe most vulnerable families to build new homes, transforming lives, and support the development of housing finance and construction markets so that more working poor families can access affordable and safe housing.

we do more than just builds houses

We not only build homes, we build communities. We address water supply and sanitation issues and in some communities provide health and educational services – like teaching financial literacy and livelihood training. This is vital knowledge communities can share with others. It’s a ‘pay it forward’ model and the beginning of generational change.

our strategic plan

Our goal is to triple our impact and scale our work by 2025. Find out how we plan to achieve our goals and how you can support us transform the lives of thousands of families in need in Australia and Overseas.

- every donor makes a difference

Through Shelter, We Empower

Transparency is the key to building strong relationships with our supporters.

Every donor builds homes, hope and communities. Without their support, our work would not be possible. With the help of our generous supporters, in the last financial year Habitat for Humanity globally served over 35 million people. This includes building and repairing homes and shelters, livelihood training and access to Water Sanitation and Hygiene. Our life-changing work would not be possible without our generous supporters. For over 30 years we have prided ourselves on ensuring donations are invested in a cost-effective, efficient and sustainable manner to help families in need build strength, stability and independence.
