Position Description

The Head of Brand & Marketing is a pivotal leadership role shaping how Habitat for Humanity Australia's mission is seen, understood, and supported.

This role is responsible for the brand, marketing, and communications strategy to grow awareness, strengthen reputation, and drive engagement and revenue. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role provides strategic counsel to the CEO, leads the marketing team, and positions Habitat as a leading voice on housing and social impact through integrated campaigns that drive fundraising, partnerships, and program outcomes.

This role is perfect for an experienced, strategic, and purpose-driven marketing leader who wants to contribute to meaningful social impact while driving the growth of a mission-led organisation at scale. This role is based in Sydney and reports to the CEO.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities 

Strategy & Organisational Leadership

  • Develop and lead an integrated brand, marketing, and communications strategy aligned with organisational priorities to position Habitat as a leading voice.

  • Provide strategic advice to the CEO and Executive Team on brand positioning, stakeholder engagement, and public visibility.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing marketing team, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and supportive culture.

  • Manage team priorities, resource allocation, and external partners to ensure the successful delivery of key initiatives.

Brand, Marketing & Communications

  • Steward, protect, and grow the Habitat brand, ensuring consistent messaging and visual identity.

  • Lead the planning and delivery of an annual integrated marketing and communications calendar across multiple channels.

  • Drive audience acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue growth through targeted initiatives that support fundraising, programs, and strategic partnerships.

  • Oversee digital and content performance across owned, earned, and paid channels.

  • Lead media relations, PR, and thought leadership strategies to increase Habitat’s visibility, supporting with executive communications and advocacy initiatives.

Performance, Governance & Reporting

  • Ensure marketing activities are measurable, data-informed, and aligned with organisational objectives and key performance indicators.

  • Manage the brand and marketing budget, providing regular performance reporting and insights to the Executive Team and Board.

  • Ensure marketing initiatives are delivered in line with safeguarding standards, organisational policies, and relevant regulatory requirements.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Qualifications and Training:

  • Tertiary qualifications in brand, marketing, communications, or a related discipline.

  • Relevant professional development in marketing and/or leadership.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

  • 10+ years’ experience in senior marketing roles, including experience leading teams and functions.

  • Proven success leading integrated campaigns across multiple channels, delivering measurable growth in audience, engagement, and revenue.

  • Ability to shape and elevate brand positioning through media, PR, and thought leadership.

  • Strong commercial capability with experience managing budgets and using data to improve marketing performance and outcomes.

  • Executive influencing skills, with the ability to translate strategy into action.

  • Experience developing and leading high-performing teams in dynamic environments.

  • A values-led leader: demonstrating kindness, accountability, courage, and humility.

Desirable:

  • Experience in not-for-profit, housing, community, or social impact sectors.

  • Experience leading fundraising, partnerships, or advocacy through marketing.

  • Understanding of safeguarding principles in marketing and communications.

The level of safeguarding measures required depends on the nature of the role. This is a Low Exposure Role: This role has minimal or no direct contact with vulnerable individuals but still requires safeguarding compliance and training.
