30 Homes in 30 Days: Front yard Blitz a Transformational Success
What an incredible achievement! Over the past few months, our Front yard Blitz has brought together hundreds of volunteers, corporate teams, and community members, all driven by a shared mission to create safe, welcoming spaces for vulnerable families in our community here in Sydney.
Delivered as part of our Brush with Kindness program, the Front yard Blitz set out with an ambitious goal: renovate the front yards of 30 homes in 30 days on Piccolo Way, transforming the exteriors of homes for families facing homelessness or housing insecurity. Thanks to the incredible support we received, we are proud to say, we did it!
The volunteers achieved the following tasks:
- Pressure cleaned
- Wipe/scrape
- Painted Car ports
- Painted Mailboxes
- Updated house numbers
- Garden Clean
A Project About More Than Paint and Plants
For many families, a home’s exterior is a reflection of pride, stability, and hope. By improving these outdoor spaces, freshly painting external walls thanks to generous donation from our Impact Partners Dulux. We haven’t just refreshed walls and yards, we’ve lifted spirits and helped create a stronger, more connected community.
Greg, our Project Leader shares: “The Blue Gum colour tint really brings the street to life and creates a modern feel. I feel this is important for residents to instill dignity and pride in their neighbourhood. We expect that with many houses sharing this same vibe it will allow a community to thrive and connect much easier and provide an entry to conversation for residents who don’t typically talk to one another.”
Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to paint, mow lawns, plant gardens, trim overgrown trees, repair fences, and breathe new life into neglected spaces. The impact was immediate for the families. “Ben and the team delivered an awesome project and quality work which has transformed an entire street. The whole process was smooth, and it was an absolute pleasure for our staff to work with Ben and the volunteers. Ben also built great rapport with the tenants which added to overall positivity for the project. Seeing the street come to life through everyone’s hard work and creativity was a reminder of what we can achieve when we come together!” – Jack and Suzanne, Link Wentworth’s Community Programs Team.
A Massive Team Effort
This project could not have happened without the incredible support of the corporate partners, volunteers, and community members made it possible to offer this pro-bono services to the partner organisations and families.
Over the 14 days, we were proud to work alongside:
–171 volunteers (including 18 Habitat Women)
–6 generous corporate partners
-32 properties
-64 households (current and future)
–Supporting over 160 people who rely on a low-income or are at risk of experiencing homelessness, to have a safe, decent and secure place to reside.
From team-building days to community action, every volunteer made a difference. Together, you’ve shown what’s possible when people come together with a shared purpose.
A Heartfelt Thank You
To every corporate partner, volunteer, and supporter—thank you. Your time, energy, and generosity created real change for hundreds of families. You’ve helped give people not just a better home environment, but hope, dignity, and connection.
“On behalf of our team at Habitat for Humanity Australia, our partner families, and beneficiaries, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dulux for their generous paint donations. Your support is invaluable to our projects and empowers our mission to bring colour, and hope to those in need. Thank you for such a longstanding partnership and believing in our vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.” -Melinda King, Partnerships Manager, Habitat for Humanity Australia.
We would like to thank Pressure Powder for their essential support with this project. Without Pressure Power doing the vital work they did the project would not have been possible. We engaged Pressure Powder a small local business to do the pressure cleaning, and they had agreed to offer to complete 4 properties for free and the remaining at a 10% discounted rate because our volunteer program is not set up for largescale cleaning and prep.
We would like to thank all our corporate partners who supported this project:
-James Hardie
-BGIS
-Link Wentworth
-Barker College
-Dulux Australia
-Bunnings
We were pleased to have our partner James Hardie who launched the Front yard Blitz project with the Paramatta Eels team.
Future Volunteer Opportunities
Front yard Blitz was more than a project, it was a reminder of the power of community and our incredible supporter’s. As we wrap up this incredible initiative, we’re inspired to continue building, renovating, and creating spaces where everyone can feel safe and supported. Yusuf who attended this project as a corporate volunteer and shared “The group work we undertook in Shalvey fostered healthy community connections and a shared selflessness in giving our time to beautify our little corner of the world even more.”
If your corporate team missed out this time but is interested in future volunteer opportunities, we would love to hear from you. Let us keep making a difference in our community in Australia, together.
