Hola Chile Build, Chile

13 - 20 July 2019

Spend your week immersing yourself in Paredones, Chile. Join Habitat for Humanity Australia for the very first time in Chile for the Hola Chile Build. We partner with Habitat for Humanity Chile in providing dynamic housing solutions and viable economic opportunities.  Change the lives of low income families in Chile, and learn about their opportunities and challenges.

On your Global Village trip to the Paredones region, you will work to improve quality of life for families who live in inadequate housing. There is a large community of seniors as well as people with disabilities and mobility issues, who are living in extremely precarious conditions.

Although the area is quiet, Paredones is full of life. Around building, you will have the opportunity to rest at the beach, go on a local wine tour around regional vineyards, or tour a local salt mine.

The rural relief project in the Paredones region, approximately 4 hours south of Santiago by car, focuses on delivering practical housing solutions to underserved populations in isolated regions. There is a large community of seniors, as well as people with disabilities and mobility issues, who are living in extremely precarious conditions (dirt floors, cardboard walls, gaps in the ceiling, etc.).

This situation is further complicated by the remote and difficult to access location of these homes. Our team is driven to provide safe, insulated and water resistant homes for these families to live more comfortably.

July 13th 2019:

Hola y bienviendo! Habitat picks you up at Santiago airport. You’ll spend the night in Santiago with the rest of the team.

July 14th 2019:

On the road. We’ll head south to Paredones, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. After a warm welcome from local Habitat staff and partner families, you’ll get a crash course in the history and culture of the region.

July 15th – 19th 2019:

Build. We’ll build 2-bedroom wood houses stoves with local workers and our partner families.

Volunteers will be asked to cut wood, nail, move panels and materials, install drywall and fibre cement with power drills, build ceiling/roof structures, and other details. No experience is necessary, as we have a team of experts who are happy to teach volunteers new skills. We invite to do the best job you can and enjoy your experience as much as possible. What you get out of this experience depends a great deal on what you put into it.

July 20th 2019

Spend the day exploring Paredones and immerse yourself in local culture. Retire to your beachfront hotel for your final night in Paredones.

July 21st 2019:

All good things can’t last forever. Head back to Santiago to explore the city and take in the views at Santa Lucia Hill, or test your bartering skills for a bargain at Central Market.

Continue your travels in Central America independently or head home.
