Grant Thornton Build 2018, Vietnam
14 July - 20 July
In July 2015, 135 leaders from Grant Thornton Australia travelled to
Phnom Penh, Cambodia to build homes for ten disadvantaged families. For CEO, Greg Keith it was a team building experience in place of the firm’s annual partner’s conference.
“The experience itself was life changing for many people and I don’t say that lightly, for many of us (myself included), we were well outside of our comfort zones, we built relationships with people that we probably thought
we would never engage with on such a personal level. And we left knowing we have changed their lives and it made us feel so much better about ourselves and better
about our organisation.”
The 2018 Grant Thornton Build will continue to strengthen and engage the relationships and bonds between partners and clients, building on the culture established in 2015
Quang Nam is a poor province located in the central coastal region of Vietnam. The majority of people in the province rely on agricultural activities (rice, short-term crops, forestation, fish breeding and farming) for their livelihoods. Infrastructure in many localities of the province is very weak and housing, water and sanitation solutions are especially insufficient.
Due to its complicated topography, Quang Nam is often affected by storms, floods, droughts, whirlwinds and landslides; communes located in the coastal and highland areas suffer the most.
Whenever natural disasters hit in the province, houses, water and sanitation facilities and agricultural production are seriously damaged. Habitat for Humanity Vietnam’s project in Quang Nam continues to help build resilience to natural disasters and climate change for those living in Que Son District, while also providing resources necessary to improve water and sanitation-related household health.
