Habitat for Humanity is seeking a new Supervisor in Brisbane Area.

Context

Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone deserves a safe and decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity began as a grassroots effort. The organisation has since grown to become a leading global non-profit working in more than 70 countries. Worldwide, Habitat has helped more than 39 million people obtain safe and decent housing, along with the strength, stability and independence to build better lives.

In Australia, Habitat for Humanity (HFHA) provides a range of services to disadvantage individuals and families.  Our programs include:  Brush with Kindness (BWK), disaster recovery and resilience; home maintenance and repair; and projects to provide and improve housing solutions.  We mobilise teams of volunteers to engage in BWK, disaster recovery, resilience and preparedness and to conduct landscaping, maintenance, painting and minor building repairs. We are currently applying for Community Housing Provider status in NSW and intend to build our strength and capacity in affordable housing development.

In Queensland, HFHA already has a track record of assisting social housing providers, particularly in the area of ‘domestic violence and indigenous housing through the BWK program. It is intended that, in time, the full array of currently operational HFHA services in NSW, are also offered in Qld.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Building, renovation, construction and maintenance skills and experience, including ability to paint and complete building repairs and small building projects.
  • Ability to support, motivate, supervise and work with up to 10 unskilled volunteers working on building maintenance and disaster recovery project creating a positive fun work environment.
  • Highly motivated, positive, excellent organisation skills with very good attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Communication skills including written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Unrestricted driver’s licence, ability to drive a Ute with trailer and willingness to travel.
  • Construction White Card (or willingness to obtain) and knowledge of construction site safety.

Requirements of the Role:

The supervisor will be required to undertake a range of functions including – 

  • Constant and continual communication with Sydney based HFHA.
  • Utilise and maintain appropriate records through use of HFHA systems including Salesforce, Hands On Connect etc.
  • Communicate with current Qld corporate supporters of BWK and foster further corporate days.
  • Supervise BWK days as required, both as Supervisor and Supervisor supporting the Supervisor – Qld.
  • Manage the online WHS induction process for Qld BWK days
  • Assist with administration for BWK (both in Qld and NSW (from time to time), e.g. putting jobs on HOC, updating Activity Register.
  • Manage Qld social media and related communications (liaise with.HFHA Digital Marketing & Communications Manager)
  • Assist in Grant applications, locating new Grants and the administration of all Qld-based Grants received.
  • Support and supervise often unskilled volunteers.
  • Organise and manage maintenance work, landscaping projects, indoor and outdoor painting, disaster recovery / resilience work and small building projects.
  • Manage all logistics for volunteer activities, including tools, equipment, vehicle loading, food, drinks and other amenities for volunteers.
  • Managing tools, equipment and materials efficiently and effectively.
  • Drive the HFHA vehicle from time to time
  • Ensure a safe working environment and proactively encouraging safe working practices.
  • Provide information and safety presentation to volunteer teams.
  • Take photos at volunteer activities and preparing brief reports.
  • Manage volunteers and work to ensure projects are completed on schedule and to a high standard.
  • Other tasks to support and grow the efficient and effective operation of the Australian Program in Qld.

Other Requirements

  • The successful applicant will need to provide evidence of a clear criminal history and adhere to HFH’s Code of Conduct, policies and procedures including the Child Protection Policy.  
  • The supervisor will need a satisfactory driving history and may need to provide details of their driving history as part of the application process.
