Position Description

The Maintenance Manager will play a crucial role in growing the scope and scale of the Habitat Women repairs and maintenance social enterprise. The role involves identifying and securing appropriate work opportunities as well as delivering high quality services in a timely and safe manner to clients. The work may be carried out under a number of funding agreements or programs, which will likely have separate objectives that must be respected in how the services are scheduled and delivered.

Under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), an exemption is given from sections 25, 33 and 51 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW) to Habitat for Humanity to advertise, designate and recruit women only for its Social Enterprise. Therefore, this role will only be taking applications from candidates who are women.

This role will suit someone who is committed and passionate about leveraging their qualifications and experience to assist the organisation to obtain a Contractor's Licence and to improve the quality of housing for those who are least able to afford it.

Habitat for Humanity Australia, through Habitat Women has been delivering a construction industry training program for women facing barriers to entry into the industry for the past four years. From that base it has developed a repairs and maintenance social enterprise which has been providing a range of services to social and community housing partners over the past eighteen months.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities 

1. Repairs and Maintenance Services

– In conjunction with the Head of Habitat Women, identify suitable work opportunities and provide assistance with the pricing and securing of these opportunities.

– Schedule the works taking into account the respective objectives of the funding agreements and programs that are in place at the time.

– Manage the delivery of the services in line with the schedule to achieve the required quality, in a timely and safe manner. This includes procurement of materials and equipment, and coordination of labour needs and any specialist contractors.

– Monitor progress against the plan and budget and provide regular reporting on what has been achieved. Where works are not proceeding in line with plan and budget, assist in developing appropriate solutions and reschedule works where necessary to meet revised targets.

– Where funding arrangements or programs require specialist services (for instance, the Healthy Homes program requires prior housing assessments by trained assessors to ascertain what works may be required), take responsibility for managing these services in conjunction with the relevant repair and maintenance works

2. Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement

– Build and maintain relationships with community organisations, service providers, and local councils.

– Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support tenant wellbeing and housing outcomes.

3. Work Health and Safety (WHS)

– Ensure all housing operations comply with WHS legislation and organisational policies.

– Conduct regular risk assessments and implement safety protocols.

– Provide WHS training and guidance to staff, contractors, and tenants as required.

4. Reporting and Evaluation

– Maintain accurate records of property and tenancy activities.

– Prepare regular reports on housing performance, occupancy, maintenance, and tenant satisfaction.

– Contribute to program evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential Skills and Experience 

· A builder’s licence or sufficient qualifications and industry experience along with a desire to support the organisation to obtain a Contractor’s Licence.

· Experience in building construction and/or repairs and maintenance.

· Experience in project management/maintenance program delivery.

· Strong understanding of WHS legislation and compliance.

· Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively

· Australian citizenship or permanent residency is required for this position.

Desirable Experience

· Experience working in the not-for-profit sector.

· C Class driver’s licences

· The successful applicant will need to provide evidence of a clear criminal history and adhere to HFHA’s Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures, including the Child Protection Policy.

· A satisfactory driving history and may need to provide details of their driving history as part of the application process.
