With over 6,000 islands to explore, the Philippines is an inviting destination waiting to be discovered.
Unique among its neighbours in Asia, the Philippines has a strong Catholic faith that infuses Filipino society. Its history of Spanish and English colonialism also sets the country apart from the rest of Asia.
Marvel at the UNESCO World Heritage listed rice terraces of Banaue. Go diving off one of the Philippines’ many islands, where you’ll see incredible wildlife like turtles and whale sharks or snorkel along magical coral reefs. Trek along a volcano or try navigating your way through the sprawling metropolis of Manila.
The Philippines, however, is also a country in great need. In 2013, Typhoon Haiyan tore through the Philippines, destroying 1.1 million homes and displacing 4 million people.
Relocating and rebuilding are just part of the challenge for the families affected. The typhoon destroyed not just houses, but communities and livelihoods as well, and there is still work to be done to give the families affected by Haiyan secure shelter and brighter futures.
