Explore Batam, just a stones throw away from Singapore.
Why not take a Maritime tour, or visit Bintan Island – and then spend a week building a home alongside your partner family. Learn how to lay bricks, shovel cement, say a few words in Indonesian and come home knowing you have made a life-changing difference with your own two hands.
Why not use your Habitat build as the starting point for an exploration of Indonesia? There is so much to see and do, and Bali is just a short flight away….
The Hope Starts at Home project is taking place in the sub-district of Nongsa, Batam. The government has provided 550 plots of land for informal settlers, but many still have trouble surviving in these settlements because they cannot afford to build houses on their plots. Kabil consists of 4.557 families totaling 20,451 residents. Of these families, 40 percent (1,822 families) of them are living in non-decent houses.
The project will take four years to complete. On this build, you will help one of the 1,000 families who will be served over the life of this project.
In addition to safe and secure housing, the project will provide access to clean water for 600 houses, as well as education on healthy houses, financial education and hygiene promotion for 750 families.
