Habitat for Humanity Victoria has had a busy few months with plans to construct several new homes this year.
Building program
In Victoria, work has commenced at the new project in Geelong where a new home is to be built for our latest partner family. At Yea plans for this year are to complete the one home under construction and to commence two more later in the year.
For the Geelong Chapter all permits have now been received and work has commenced on site works. A team from Telstra was the first corporate team to visit the site and they started work on the boundary fence of the property. In the coming weeks more teams are scheduled to work on this new project once the slab and framing are completed. The Chapter would be pleased to hear from any volunteers and tradespeople who would like to be involved in this project.
Both the Mornington Peninsula and West Gippsland Chapters having handed over 3 homes each last year are now looking for land for their next projects. Buying the land in the right location at the right price remains an on-going challenge for Habitat for Humanity, but we are hopeful of securing the right blocks.
ReStore (Kilsyth and Rosebud)
Both Restore locations are busy with several large donations of office furniture and office equipment being received into the warehouses. All sales from the two ReStore outlets continue to provide valuable funding for Habitat for Humanity Victoria for both current and future building projects.
As well as the two store locations some of these goods are also available through online channels like Graysonline and Gumtree in job lots for larger quantity items. The constant flow of customers allows the ReStore team to explain and discuss the work of Habitat for Humanity and how every dollar helps change lives.
