Home handover in Junee

Habitat for Humanity NSW celebrated the completion of another home with a handover ceremony in Junee on the 27th March.

“As a family, we have been constantly on the move to stay one step ahead of house rental increases. It is tiring, expensive, and destabilising,” said Barry.

“I work long hours as a concreter, taking whatever work I can get. It does not seem to matter how hard Marie and I try to save money, there was never enough for a house deposit.”

By partnering with Habitat, Barry and Marie have been able to achieve the dream of owning their own home. The family contributed 500 hours of their own time in “sweat equity” toward the planning and construction phases.

The handover was a special celebration for Barry and Marie. Family, friends, corporate sponsors, trades persons, local Junee Councillors, and the Habitat for Humanity NSW Board were present at the ceremony. Here, Barry thanked Habitat as well as everyone for their efforts in helping build their home.

“The Habitat for Humanity partnership is a real blessing,” said Marie. “We’re happy to have a house to call home and are looking forward to having the family around for a barbecue. It is going to be wonderful.”

The support of our corporate partners has been vital to our home building program in Australia. As our Foundation Partner, QBE’s generous support has made it possible for Barry and Marie, as well as other families around Australia to have their own home. Other corporate sponsors, such as Tarkett also kindly donated floorboards toward the construction of the home.
