Congratulations David Benn, recipient of our Meritorious Service Award.

Habitat for Humanity Australia volunteers make remarkable contributions of time, energy and resources to serve families in need of safe and decent shelter.

chris-david-cropIn April this year, the Habitat Australia Board nominated and awarded David Benn the Meritorious Service Award, one of the highest honours Habitat for Humanity Australia bestows upon its members. This award recognises prolonged years of service and outstanding contribution to Habitat for Humanity mission and vision in Australia.

David was considered a worthy recipient of this award due to the expertise and skills he brought to Habitat, from his illustrious career in international banking, finance, funds management and consulting, as well as his many years of service on our Board. David served on the Board for seven years, two as Chair where he built a stronger, more sustainable organisation to better serve communities in need both in Australia and the Asia Pacific. David worked tirelessly and was successful in his mission, bringing about significant change through a major review of program and structure.

David has served his community in a number of other ways, in community leadership roles as Chairman of the Fulbright Commission, President of the American Club, Sydney, Chairman of the Parish Council of St Stephen’s Church, Sydney, and a number of other charitable and community organisations.

Since his retirement, David has remained a strong supporter of Habitat bringing considerable knowledge and expertise to provide ongoing support including help in the recruitment of our new CEO in 2014. David has undoubtedly made a difference to the lives of many Habitat families in need.

Thank you David, we really appreciate all you have done to help Habitat step closer to our vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
