For 20 years, Myint has lived in Myanmar’s Dala Township. Her home is cobbled together with now torn tarpaulins, rusted corrugated iron and old bamboo – materials which unsurprisingly do not offer sufficient protection from the elements. For most of her adult life, Jacque has been a single mother to her five children and has provided care for several other children as well. Community goodwill has given single dad Michael McGlashan his own home for the first time since a 2010 work injury cost him almost everything. Through Habitat for Humanity, the family moved into their new home in Victoria in time for Christmas.
