A new era of development

At the end of September, global leaders came together at the UN headquarters in New York to affirm the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will guide global development efforts through 2030.

Goal 11 calls for the world to make sure that everyone on the planet has access to adequate, safe and affordable housing by 2030. That means people will no longer live in slums and everyone will have access to basic services such as water and sanitation.

We know this is possible. We can eliminate poverty and we can ensure that everyone has a decent place to live by 2030, but only if we all work together and hold global leaders accountable to the goals they set.

This is just the one of 17 global goals that calls to end poverty in all forms by 2030.

More than 140 heads of state gathered at United Nations headquarters to officially adopt a new global agenda, known as the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals. The adoption of the global goals marks the culmination of more than three years of consultations and input from stakeholders around the world.

This is the beginning of a new era of development, and most importantly, a time for action. Now that the goals are set, it’s time for leaders at every level of government to start implementing them.
